It took me several months to actually finish this book, but let me tell you, it wasn't because I wasn't enjoying it or because I struggled with it, it was because life was hitting me so hard that when I came back from work all I wanted to do was nothing.
And I kinda fell into a reading slump.
JLA es one of my favourite authors of all times, and I always know I'll love whatever she writes –unless it's about something scary,– and this book was everything and more.
Poppy is just Poppy, brave and sassy as she is, she is also scared of the things she can't comprehend. And what I loved about her is that even though her world was torn apart she thrived through everything. We can definitely tell that she struggles with her feelings and accepting that those are her true feelings towards everything.
But her relation with Casteel just makes it everything even better. They bicker with each other, and I can't stop laughing all the time. Casteel is just a goofball and loves to tease Poppy, but sometimes he makes it seem as what he actually says it's true. Kieran is just an added bonus, because he also likes to bicker –in a good way,– with our Poppy.
Through the story, we get to know about all the different bloodlines and their powers, mostly thanks to Kieran, and Poppy constantly asking questions –but who wouldn't when they're thrown into a completely different world? And most importantly we get to know more about Casteel's past and what happened with his brother.
There are some questions raised about Poppy's linage, and who her parents were or what were they. At some point, I thought I had everything sorted out and then BAM everything changes, and something super incredible is revealed. Because that plot twist was just so freaking awesome and just makes me want it to be April so we can read the third book.
I had to give it 5 stars out of 5 stars! ★

Btw, have you seen the second cover reveal of 'The crown of gilded bones'? Because it's definitely what it has to be and it's absolutely gorgeous.
I'm just going to leave you the cover here so you can appreciate it's beauty.
